WAY Better Than Expected!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!
The Amcrest ATC-1201 12mp Digital Trail Cam is a very sturdy, very good quality video camera and still shot camera that is motion activated.
I live in the mountains and my backyard is the woods. I have a trail in my backyard and frequently see moose, deer, red fox and other animals using the trail. I’ve always wanted to mount a good quality trail cam in my yard so I never miss anything!
The Amcrest Trail Cam comes with the camera, a strap to secure it around a tree, a USB cable to download photos and videos from the camera to a computer, audio video cables if you would like to hook the camera up to a TV, a remote control to use while setting the camera up or viewing the footage on the 2″ display screen on the camera, a warranty card and the owner’s manual.
The camera requires 4 batteries (not included) but accommodates 8 batteries so you don’t have to replace the batteries as frequently. The camera uses an SD card, (not included) up to 32GB.
The camera is extremely user friendly. To get it going, I inserted the batteries, put in the SD card and played around with the menu a little to set the time/date stamp and to select my options for length of video, number of still shots, etc. The camera can be set to only take still shots, only video, or both. I set the camera to take 30 seconds of video and 3 still shots upon being activated by motion. I then strapped the camera to a tree in my yard and because it is camouflaged, it’s virtually invisible.
The camera doesn’t make any sound what-so-ever when activated. This is really a great feature! Years ago my son put out a very inexpensive, black & white, not-so-good trail cam and it would click when activated so the photos were usually of the backside of a deer as it ran off. LOL!
The Amcrest camera takes color shots during daylight hours and night vision shots when dark, so not color. The camera has audio capability as well, which I didn’t even realize was an option with trail cams! BONUS!! I can’t wait for the day when I capture an elk call on the trail cam!
The weather can get very cold where I live and we get a ton of snow in the winter, but the Amcrest Cam is built to withstand the elements and I plan on leaving it out year-round.
I fastened the camera around a tree with the included strap, which is very long as can be securely fastened to fit around about anything. I kept walking past it for few days wondering if it was really working because I couldn’t see or hear anything from the camera, which is exactly what a trail cam should do.
The Amcrest camera is so well made and user friendly that it’s not even necessary to take the camera down to replace the batteries or remove the SD card. The door is located on the bottom of the camera and is easily opened with a latch. The tray with the batteries can then be slid out and back in. The SD card is easily accessible. I can remove the SD card, download the pictures to my computer then easily put the SD card back into the camera and latch the door closed.
The batteries should last long enough and with a 32GB SD card there should be plenty of memory so that I only will check the photos/videos every few weeks.
I put the Amcrest camera out for a few days hoping to capture wildlife to post with this review, but the only wildlife I captured is me and my dog (see attached photos). I’ll add wildlife photos as I get them. Watch the video to see actual video captured by the trail cam, the quality is unbelieveable! I really like the time/date stamp and that it shows the temperature at the time the photo was taken! Awesome!
I am so impressed with the quality of the audio, video and still shots! I truly didn’t expect it to be this good! I had how hopes and the Amcrest camera far exceeded them! The quality is good enough that when I do capture photos of wildlife, I could have it framed to display in my home. My guests will start to think all I do is sit out back waiting for wildlife.
I cannot say enough good things about this trail camera. It has surpassed every expectation I had! I am so excited to have it and view the photos/videos it captures!
I received the Amcrest ATC-1201 12mp Digital Trail Cam at a discount in exchange for my honest, unbiased review, which I have given to assist other buyers in making informed purchasing decisions. If you have any questions about this review or product, please leave a comment and I’ll answer it to the best of my ability.
UPDATE: 11/01/2015 ~ The trail cam is working excellent! I captured video and still shots of deer and moose. I’ve added photographs of the deer and moose. I love this!
