Western Caribbean Cruise
Ray and I went on a nice, short, relaxing western Caribbean cruise on the Carnival Ecstasy last week. I love cruises! I find it so relaxing and love that we can unpack once we get on the cruise ship and visit different locations without ever having to re-pack and unpack again.
This cruise departed from Miami, Florida and had stops in Key West, Florida and Cozumel, Mexico.
I really like Key West! I’ve been there before and it’s a quaint town with lots of fun restaurants and bars. It was Ray’s first time in Key West and we started out by taking a tour of the town, learning about it’s history and seeing homes of celebrities. We then went to the Mel Fisher museum, which was amazing! Ray has been a Mel Fisher follower for many years and is fascinated with his story of searching for a ship that sunk off of Key West in the 1600’s named the Atocha. Mel Fisher discovered the sunken treasure, which is worth in the billions, in 1985 after dedicating his life to the search. Mel Fisher is no longer alive, but his son has carried on the legacy and is still bringing up treasures from the ocean floor! Gold, emeralds, “pieces of eight” (old coins), silver, etc. I gave Ray a coin from the Atocha shipwreck for Christmas several years back. Ray has always had a fascination with gold mining and finding sunken treasures.
The stop in Cozumel was very relaxing for me. We’ve been to Cozumel so many times that I didn’t even get off the cruise ship. I relaxed on the deck, got a pedicure and slept. Ray went scuba diving, which I can’t do yet because of my back surgery.
My favorite part of the cruise was SMOKEY ROBINSON! Carnival recently started having well known celebrities perform concerts on some of their cruise ships. You have to buy tickets for the concert, but it was so worth it. I purchased VIP tickets which got us in early for a “meet and greet” with Smokey and front row seats for the concert! It was amazing! So hard to believe Smokey is 75-years-old! He sings better than ever and is HOT! I never thought I would say that about a 75-year-old! Not only hot, but sexy, too. The way he moves when he sings. This is the first concert where I’ve seen Ray sing along and really get into it. It was so much fun! I didn’t want the concert to end!
